The GCSAA Conference & Trade Show 2025 in San Diego once again provided an impressive stage for everyone involved in greenkeeping and golf course management. This year's event was once again all about innovation, sustainability and professional exchange. Over 11,000 participants came together, more than 6,700 seminar places were taken - the highest figure since 2008. 464 exhibitors presented their innovations at the trade fair on an area of 14,300 m². Special highlights were the education areas, the drone demonstration area and GCSAA Services.
The opening event on Sunday was a real highlight: the tour of the renowned Torrey Pines Golf Club. Located directly on the Pacific coast, this PGA course is one of the best known in the region. The perfect blend of sophisticated design and spectacular scenery made the visit a special experience - and offered valuable insights into the management of a course at the highest level.
In terms of content, the conference focused on sustainable course maintenance, resource conservation and digitalization. The presentation by Andrew Wilson, Director of Agronomy at Bethpage Black Golf Course, was particularly impressive. He provided exciting insights into the preparations for the Ryder Cup 2025 and spoke about the collaboration with the PGA and the challenges involved in planning and implementing the measures.
Another highlight was the research results from Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences on the subject of robotic mowers, which revealed new perspectives for more efficient course maintenance. The GCSAA Run in Embarcadero Park on Tuesday also generated a lot of enthusiasm. Around 250 participants ran the course along San Diego Bay to benefit the GCSAA Foundation, which supports educational and research projects in the field of golf course management.
At the trade fair, it once again became clear just how much digitalization is changing the industry. Autonomous mowing systems, drones for data collection and sensor technology for the early detection of turf diseases took center stage. The drone zone attracted particular interest and showed how modern technology is revolutionizing pitch maintenance - from detailed analysis of grass quality to data-based maintenance decisions.
Overall, the GCSAA Conference & Trade Show 2025 was characterized by a lively, almost tangible dynamic. The enthusiasm for what this industry is all about was palpable everywhere. The golf boom in the USA continues unabated, and the trade fair once again showed how much innovative power there is in the industry. The event ended with a look ahead to the GCSAA 2026 in Orlando, where the 100th anniversary of the organization will be celebrated.
